A really nice video on Pectus
The video is a really nice question and answer session from a surgeon called Shyam Kolvekar in London who does a lot of pectus surgery in a similar way to us. This was a webinar to a great patient interest group called Pectus Excavatum Support UK facebook site
The NUSS Procedure
I have a particular interest in chest wall surgery for pectus deformities such as pectus excavatum and pectus carinatum and related problems. I also realise the tremendous difficulty that people have in getting to just talk to someone who can do anything about these problems so I am happy to talk to or be in E-mail contact with anyone who wants to talk to a surgeon about their particular case.
We offer all surgery on the NHS including the NUSS procedure and the RAVITCH Procedure. I really like you to have researched as much as you can before talking to me and the video below may help to see what is involved in a NUSS procedure.
Please also read some of the comments below it as they are all of interest.

The RAVITCH PROCEDURE
This is a recent video of one of our Ravitch operations. I call it a mini-ravitch as the incision is only around 7cm and we are much more gentle than surgeons used to be in the past. We don't leave any metal behind to take out later, we only remove small parts of cartilage and we join the ribs back to the sternum in order to preserve stability straight after the operation. Also We are careful to preserve the whole blood supply to prevent healing complications.
I did this video so that people interested in having this operation could actually see what we do. Of note it is an operative video

An interesting new option for Pectus Excavatum : Pectus Up
This looks like an interesting 3rd option for patients with pectus excavatum who are interested in a reduced operative stay and perhaps reduced pain compared to a ravitch operation. The incision is also a couple of centimetres smaller and less pectoral muscle is disrupted. We can now offer this procedure if you think this might benefit you.
